Hudson made a splash in the market with the release of their H9 handgun. It was well received and noted for it's very low bore axis and 1911-like straight pull trigger. Unfortunately Hudson ran into financial issues and eventually went under. The H9 was dead, or so we thought. Daniel Defense just announced that the Hudson H9 is back from the dead as the Daniel H9.
The original Hudson H9 had some quality control issues on some guns which may have come from financial issues. There were also other issues with premature wear on parts compared to other guns that were inherent to the design itself. This would lead you to replacing some small parts much more frequently than you would on a competitor's gun. So while the Daniel H9 looks fairly similar it's almost a complete redesign of the existing gun. Daniel Defense used it as a template to make a better version that's been factory tested for reliablity and durability. While they were at it some features were added to give the gun featuress that people expect. That includes an optics plate and a normal accessory rail.
Near the end of the original Hudson H9 run it was not something we would really have suggested buying since the warranty and replacement parts availability would likely be a huge concern going forward. This new H9 seems like an attractive purchase with a name like Daniel Defense backing it up. Check out Colion Noir's new video if you would like to see more:
