Springfield Armory Releases a Hi-Power Called SA-35

Today Springfield Armory announced a new product launch that wasn't expected, a Hi-Power modeled pistol called the SA-35. The new Springfield pistol a variety of improvements on the older Hi-Power but still retains compatibility with a majority of the older parts and magazines. The SA-35 actually ships with a 15rd magazine while the Hi-Power had a 13rd magazine.

From Springfield Armory:

Based on one of the most prolific and popular pistols in small arms history, the Springfield Armory® SA-35 gives today’s shooters a modern take on a revered classic. Featuring subtle but significant upgrades to John Moses Browning’s original P-35 design, the 9mm SA-35 captures the appeal of the “wood and steel” era of arms making while offering the upgraded enhancements of today’s defensive pistols. Made in the U.S.A., the SA-35 features rugged forged steel parts for strength and durability, improved ergonomics and enhanced controls, a factory tuned trigger, modern sights, an improved feed ramp design, and an increased 15-round capacity.

Springfield hit a grand slam with this release. There is already a significant base of Hi-Power fans and many existing parts available. Those that already own them can interchange mags and other parts (like grips). The price point makes this one of the most reasonably priced metal handguns in the market which sees mostly polymer additions. We've got these on order and anticipate that they'll be very hard to get early on! We've got an inquiry in with Nighthawk Custom to find out if they have any plans to utilize the SA-35 as a base for their upgrades since they relied on a supply of Hi-Power pistols which were discontinued.

Wow! This is fantastic! Any word on the "variety of improvements", other than the 15 rnd magazine, are? Have you been given a prototype or advanced model to do a full review on? Owning three Browning Hi-Powers myself, I can't wait to see one of these! Keep us informed! Thanks!

Delete magazine safety. Tuned trigger. Beveled magazine well. Modern sights. Improved safety lever (non-ambidextrous). I am a “purist” for classic guns and own multiple Hi-Powers, I can’t wait to add this one.

I look forward to seeing, handling and eventually shooting one. Since the original prices went up after FN stopped making them, these could be a great success. I do really like the originals.

Beautiful! Its great to see one of the most iconic semi-autos ever made being produced again. I had a Browning years ago Armand Swenson had done for me, wide trigger, S&W rear sight, ambidextrous safety, checkered frame (front & rear), other amenities.

Looks like the Charles Daly HP. Those are a decent P35. Nice to see another offering. Too bad they put grips for an ambidextrous model on it.

Been seeing a lot of negative comments recently about extractor issues. Before I jump in on this I think I will let this pistol settle in for a while let the bugs get shaken out first..........
