The new Springfield pistol a variety of improvements on the older Hi-Power but still retains compatibility with a majority of the older parts and magazines. The SA-35 actually ships with a 15rd magazine while the Hi-Power had a 13rd magazine.
From Springfield Armory:
Based on one of the most prolific and popular pistols in small arms history, the Springfield Armory® SA-35 gives today’s shooters a modern take on a revered classic. Featuring subtle but significant upgrades to John Moses Browning’s original P-35 design, the 9mm SA-35 captures the appeal of the “wood and steel” era of arms making while offering the upgraded enhancements of today’s defensive pistols. Made in the U.S.A., the SA-35 features rugged forged steel parts for strength and durability, improved ergonomics and enhanced controls, a factory tuned trigger, modern sights, an improved feed ramp design, and an increased 15-round capacity.

Springfield hit a grand slam with this release. There is already a significant base of Hi-Power fans and many existing parts available. Those that already own them can interchange mags and other parts (like grips). The price point makes this one of the most reasonably priced metal handguns in the market which sees mostly polymer additions. We've got these on order and anticipate that they'll be very hard to get early on! We've got an inquiry in with Nighthawk Custom to find out if they have any plans to utilize the SA-35 as a base for their upgrades since they relied on a supply of Hi-Power pistols which were discontinued.
