Last year SIG shipped a very limited number of MCX Spears chambered in .277 Fury. These were a combo with a matching suppressor and came from the same assembly line as those that went to the US miitary. These new rifles were chambered with a larger round than the prior MCXs which only came in 5.56mm or .300 Blackout. It was speculated at the time that we would eventually receive a commercial variant of the MCX Spear and would take the place of the 716 Piston Rifles, although nothing was confirmed at the time.
Not long after this SIG announced the MCX Spear LT. These rifles were chambered in 5.56mm and .300 Blackout like the prior MCX Virtus series however the option of 7.62x39mm was added. Around this time we received the news that SIG would begin shipping a commercial MCX Spear Non-LT in 7.62x51mm (.308 Win) and it was even posted on their website product page.
So when is this gun be available? That's a good question and unfortunately that's where the trail ends. We receive numerous calls and emails every week asking about purchasing one, but we have no ETA on delivery. Even our SIG rep has no idea when they will start shipping. While we don't expect this to be a SIG MPX debacle where the gun was hyped up for abou 2 years before the first one shipped, it's not in keeping with SIG's recent history of actually shipping a new gun right around the time it's added to the their website. Once SIG does finally delivery the first batch you will find them on our website, but for now we are in the dark as much as you are.
